27 Apr 2008 Lyndsay’s Big Race
 |  Category: Life  | Leave a Comment

Lyndsay ran the Country Music Half-Marathon here in Nashville yesterday morning. She did great! She finished in just less than 2 hours and 14 minutes. She averaged 10 minute miles the entire time. And here’s the most impressive part…she didn’t stop to walk the entire time! She ran the whole thing.

It’s pretty awesome, and I’m super proud of her. Here are some pictures, and one really funny video. When she passed me at mile marker 7, I decided to jump out in the mob of runners and take a couple pictures and get a quick video interview with her. Check it out…

25 Apr 2008 The Big Race!

Tomorrow is the big race. Lyndsay is running in the Country Music Half Marathon in downtown Nashville. I was thinking about doing it, but didn’t have the time (or the desire) to train because of accounting classes. But she diligently trained, recruited a couple of friends to run with her along the way, and is ready (and excited) to do the race tomorrow! I’m going to go and cheer, and hopefully take some pictures…I’m just hoping I can pick her out of the crowd of 30 something thousand people that are there running!

Supposedly you can watch the results live from the race’s website at http://www.cmmarathon.com/home.html. Lyndsay will have a little thing tied to her shoe and when she crosses certain mile markers it will upload her time to the internet where you can “watch” her run all 13 miles! I’m not sure how or if it will all work…but she’ll start running shortly after 7:00 AM Central and should be done between 8:45 and 9:15 AM Central. So if you’re at a computer during those times, go over the website and try it out!

And if you don’t make it for that…I’ll be posting some pictures here soon.

I’m still not sure exactly what happened, but some of my pictures got “misplaced”…I’ll find them, though…

…and hopefully I’ll have them up soon. In the meantime, enjoy the new layout! I think I’m going to stick with it. Thoughts?

24 Apr 2008 Mitch and Brittany get married!

Wedding number 2 of the summer is complete now, and I thought I’d share a few pictures. Mitch and Brittany had a wonderful outdoor wedding in Mt. Juliet/Lebanon, TN (I never was quite sure exactly where I was). It was nice.

And the food was wonderful.

(And I happened to grab a really funny picture of Chris, Mitch’s Stepdad, holding up Brittany’s train while she went through the buffet line. It was pretty funny, so I thought I’d post it here too)

22 Apr 2008 Birdies…all up in our Grill.
 |  Category: Life  | Leave a Comment

This is our Grill. We’ve had it for about two years now. It’s been great. We’ve cooked out on it numerous times….though since I went back to school, I haven’t gotten to cook out as much as I’d like to. In fact, it’s probably hasn’t been touched since February 1.

So this past weekend Kristi, our neighbor, came up and rang our doorbell. This was somewhat uncommon. Usually she just stands in our backyard with her cat at random times, which at first was a little strange, but hey–whatever. We got used to it after a while.

So she asks us if we knew about the birds in our grill. Lyndsay and I looked at each other kinda confused, and went out back with Kristi. We opened up our grill and…

Sure enough…there was a whole birds nest built inside our grill. We looked inside and there were at least 5…(5!?!) baby wrens that had been hatched in the nest, and were all laying in there, waiting on momma bird to return.

It was kinda neat. And a little creepy.

Either way, we won’t be grilling out for another couple weeks, it looks like.

…or will we?!

20 Apr 2008 Face of Jesus on my Jeans?

Face of Jesus on my Jeans?

So this weekend the church that we’ve been visiting and almost decided on joining, Fellowship Bible Church, had a weekend called “The Church has left the Building.” Basically, they cancelled all the standard services and told everyone in the church to go serve the community, however that looked for them. So a lot is going down this weekend.

Lyndsay and I volunteered at El Shaddai Christian Church, a local hispanic congregation. We painted, caulked, and did various other construction projects around the church. This is a hispanic church that Lyndsay and I drive past every week on our way to church and we see it packed out with folks…so it’s exciting to help out with what God is doing to minister to hispanics in Nashville.

So anyway, Lyndsay and I, along with a couple other folks painted a nursery room. Not especially stressful. Not hard labor. But it was good to get to do something, and to meet a few of the folks from the church who were there and even made us burgers and lemonade.

Lyndsay had a great time especially. She’s really excited about hispanic ministry. I think it’s because occasionally she gets a hispanic patient in her office and she loves the challenge of communicating. She also really likes the patients themselves, and she says that they’re the nicest and most thankful of the folks she usually sees.

But on to my story, and the picture up top. So we painted this nursery room and came home. As I was changing to get ready to go out, I noticed a paint stain on my jeans. Not a big deal, I had a few of them…but when I looked closer at this one, it actually looked like something…a face. And the more I looked at it…it kinda looked like one of those faces where someone says “I saw the face of jesus on a tree in my backyard!” or something like that. So I took a picture and I thought I’d share.

16 Apr 2008 A great blog

Hey all.

I happened to stumble across the blog the other day…Stuff Christians Like. It’s a fantastic blog. The guy who writes it (who apparently is also a Samford alumni) does a great job of noting many of the things that we do as Christians, just because we like to. They range from funny to serious. Here are a few of my favorites…I’ve wondered about many of these things myself:

What the heck is an unspoken prayer request?

http://stufffchristianslike.blogspot.com/2008/03/17-unspoken-prayer-requests.html

Why we like to boycott stuff so much

http://stufffchristianslike.blogspot.com/2008/04/149-boycotting-stuff.html

Why did we EVER think a giant blue singing songbook was a great idea for a mascot?

http://stufffchristianslike.blogspot.com/2008/03/20-psalty.html

Why do youth pastors always have gotees?

Mixing Sign Language and Music. (How on EARTH does this keep us from looking weird to anyone who isn’t deaf?!)

13 Apr 2008 Yesterday’s Score: Lyndsay 2, Inanimate Objects 0
 |  Category: Life  | 4 Comments

So yesterday Lyndsay goes out to do her usual weekend run…except this time, she’s going to run in a nearby park, and not just our neighborhood. So she leaves, but in about 30 seconds, she comes back in the house and says, “Scott?….I just hit your car.” I figured it couldn’t be that bad–after all, we’re parked next to each other on the driveway. It’s not like she had time to get up to any kind of ramming speed. Well…she apparently did. She put a rather large dent in my driver door and knocked my sideview mirror halfway off.

So I stay pretty cool about it…though I start parking my car about 50 yards down the street just to be safe.

So later that afternoon she goes to get a haircut. I’m in the bathroom getting ready and I hear her get back. Garage door opens…I hear the car come in…WHAM!! Lyndsay just ran into the house. No permanent damage that I can see as of yet…but then again, she hasn’t moved her car back out to give me the opportunity to check.

So when we’re talking about it, I ask, “Lyndsay, why do you keep running in to non-moving objects?” Her response: “I think I need one of those tennis balls hanging from the ceiling to tell me when to stop.”

I’m pretty sure that if I hired an air traffic controller to guide her in and out of there…it wouldn’t make much of a difference.

…sigh…
