28 Oct 2009 Woodlabel Photo Makes Me Look Good.

matt sidell, scott crews

I got to see some of the pictures last night from Matt and Liz’s Wedding earlier this month. They turned out great! Brandon Wood, the photographer, did a great job.

If you haven’t seen me in person recently then I’ll answer the question on your mind: Yes, I still look the same as I always have and no, I’m not actually this good looking. In fact, neither is Matt. So how did this picture come out this way? It’s a digital photography miracle.

Here are some more pictures from the day on Woodlabel Photo’s Blog. As you will see in the pictures, we groomsmen got to play with Nerf guns. They made the waiting around go much faster.

(Interesting Side Note: Brandon, the photographer, actually lives in Nashville and a year or so ago made a website for Jarrod Jones, a speaker/author that I work for. Small world, huh?)

26 Oct 2009 NashvilleRewards.com saves me big bucks

I’m not sure why it took me so long to blog about this. Maybe I feared it exploding with popularity and ending with no explanation. NashvilleRewards.com is website with discounts for a couple Nashville restaurants. But not just any restaurants…my two favorite locally owned restaurants in town. In fact, if you have come to visit me in Nashville, chances are I have attempted to drag you to one or both of these restaurants. They are delicious.

20090220045743_copper_kettle_logoThe first is the Copper Kettle. I can be found eating there just about every week. In fact, I ate there today. It is the tastiest meat-and-three in town. And they have a really nice view that overlooks downtown and the Titans stadium. So for 12 or 13 bucks after tax, two people can get a full meal and drinks. After eating there probably 25-30 times and trying just about everything on the meat and vegetable line, I haven’t found anything I didn’t like. Also, on Sundays they have an all-you-can-eat buffet for 16 or 17 bucks with an omelet bar and the works. That’s out of my personal everyday Sunday price range, but I did go once and I’ve gotta say, it bypassed Monell’s as my favorite place to get the big fancy Sunday brunch (Monell’s is my now-second-favorite Sunday Brunch, though it is also delicious).

To get the “Buy 1 meal and two drinks, get 1 Meal free” coupon for Copper Kettle, click here.

20081228100631_mcdjpglogoThe second is McDougal’sMcDougal’s is a chicken finger restaurant, similar to Zaxby’s (or Guthrie’s for all you Alabama people…or Otter’s for all you Nashville people). Here are four reasons why McDougal’s is the best in Middle Tennessee for chicken fingers. 1) Unlimited Sauce, from a whole bar of barbeques, honey mustard, ranch, house, etc. 2) Free Ice Cream. 3) Great chicken fingers. 4) This coupon. When Lyndsay and I first discovered McDougal’s, we went there several times in a row after church. We have now trained ourselves in a Pavlov’s Dog-esque manner to salivate at the thought of McDougal’s Chicken Fingers after church. In fact, we ate there after church this past weekend. It’s so good!

These restaurants were my favorites before I happened to find these coupons. They’ll probably be my favorites long after the coupons are gone. But while they’re here, I’ve literally saved hundreds of dollars with them. I hope you enjoy them too! (NOTE: There are other coupons at NashvilleRewards.com too. Be sure to check them out.)

22 Oct 2009 A Bad Bible Name Association.

This morning I was reading through the book of Romans and read Romans 16:1-2:

“ I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a deacon in the church in Cenchrea. Welcome her in the Lord as one who is worthy of honor among God’s people. Help her in whatever she needs, for she has been helpful to many, and especially to me.” - (NLT)

Alright, now close your eyes and imagine sister Phoebe in your mind.

Did anyone else imagine Lisa Kudrow dressed up like she’s ready for a scene in “Passion of the Christ”?

Thanks to the TV show “Friends”, I can’t imagine Phoebe of the Bible looking like anyone else. I’m sure that’s not-at-all accurate, but I can’t seem to shake the idea.

Does anyone else imagine that undepicted historical figures might look like modern day celebrities when you think/read/talk about them?

C’mon guys.

13 Oct 2009 What do I want for Christmas?

fig30

It’s mid October, and that means that I should have had my Christmas list ready to publish to Lyndsay’s family a week ago. They like to plan things ahead of time.

Unfortunately, I have a mental block that prohibits me from coming up with a Christmas list until hours before Black Friday begins. This has created a problem every year of my married life.

Last year I gave Christmas away and it was a big hit, I thought. It raised a lot of money for missions around the world and as a result, a lot of families got chickens and goats, keeping them fed throughout the year when they otherwise could have gone hungry.

Unfortunately, it was not a big hit with those who would typically shop for me. I was told that I killed the Christmas spirit when I threatened to return any gifts to me that were not part of my “plan” to give Christmas away to others.

…this year, I’m under strict order to come up with a list of stuff for myself. Except that it isn’t November yet.

So…I’m taking suggestions. What should I put on my Christmas list?

06 Oct 2009 Congratulations, Matt and Liz Sidell!

Matt and Liz Sidell

This past weekend my best friend Matt got married. I got to go and be a part of the wedding, which was a lot of fun. Also, I’d never been to Wilmington, NC before, so that was fun too.

My dad grabbed this picture while they were walking out. I think it turned out pretty nice! I’m still sifting through the other pictures and will post them soon.

I always enjoyed hanging out with Matt in high school because he could make even the most routine things seem like an adventure. A trip to Wal-Mart, a shift at Chick-fil-A…it didn’t matter. It was always fun. Since we pretty much only hang out now when we are visiting family for holidays, time together is few and far between.

When I first got to Wilmington last week, Matt had to put some equipment in the church where the wedding would be. It was late, but Matt had been given a church key and instructions for disarming the alarm. I figured he had done this before, so we arrived and Matt went inside. I stood in the doorway as Matt walked to the alarm and started pushing buttons. I heard something along the lines of, “…okay…”…beep…beep…”wait a…”…beepbeepbeep…

…and then he sure did set off the church alarm. That thing was loud.

And unfortunately, it triggered an automatic call to the police. So after having been in Wilmington and back with Matt for only a couple hours, we were being visited by the police. It ended up not being too bad. We just answered some questions and explained that we just didn’t know how to work an alarm system, and that was the end of it. Ahh, good times.

The next days leading up to the wedding were fun. We ate a lot of shrimp (fresh from the ocean!), had a rehearsal dinner with our favorite — Bucky’s Bar-B-Q, and on Saturday Matt and Liz got married and headed off for their honeymoon.
