05 Aug 2008 Weekend Getaway to Dallas

We got to see Chris and Sallie!

A couple weeks ago Lyndsay and I had a few days off work and we decided to take advantage of them and take a spontaneous weekend getaway. We found an amazing price on a last minute flight, a good deal on a hotel and rental car…and off we went (with all of about 2 days planning). While in Dallas we saw the JFK museum, Six Flags, and we even got to go to this outdoor festival called “Taste of Dallas” where the local restaurants lined up along the street and sold food.

And the best part of all was that we got to visit with our friends Chris and Sallie Thomas! We had a great time driving around Dallas with them…and enjoying what Mexican food is SUPPOSED to taste like, apparently.

Dallas is a pretty neat city. I give them a D- for their roads (highways don’t have exit numbers) and intersections (they put all their stoplights downtown on the side of the street). and I give them an A+ for their food (amazing mexican) and an A for their rollercoasters (the Titan at Six Flags put a hurt on me that I can’t even begin to explain).

20 Jun 2008 She walks, She talks, She sleeps. All at the same time.

So I’m upstairs right now working on a some homework while Lyndsay gets some rest for her big run tomorrow. (She’s running a 10 mile race tomorrow morning in Bell Buckle, TN. She loved the half marathon so much she couldn’t wait until next year to do it again)

So I’m up here working away. She’s been asleep for about three hours. All of a sudden, I hear a chair moving downstairs in the kitchen.

“Lyndsay?”

“yeah?”

“What are you doing?”

“…uh…I don’t know?”

I come downstairs to investigate. I find Lyndsay at the fridge, drinking water.

“What were you doing?” I ask again.

“…uh…I was getting a chair. …because it’s not high enough…(pause–obvious gear switching inside her head)…and they needed somewhere to sit.”

Wow. She’s obviously deeply out of it. So, I decide to play along and see what she does.

“what?! Who is in our bedroom?”

She ignores me and begins walking back to the bedroom.

“Wait, you forgot your chair! Where are they gonna sit?” I respond.

“nevermind. They’re gone now.” and she starts to walk back.

“Really?”

“Yes.” she says. “And please don’t blog about this”

“Okay, don’t worry. I won’t.”

03 Jun 2008 My Family goes Mac?
 |  Category: Life  |  Tags: , , , , ,  | One Comment

Yesterday my sister bought herself a Macbook. She blamed it on going to grad school. I knew she was just using it as an excuse, because she’s going to Clemson. I don’t think they actually have computers at Clemson. After all, they only discovered electricity and indoor plumbing about 5 years ago out there. But she’ll be out there with a Mac. And all her teeth, which is guaranteed to make her stand out there.

I kid, I kid.

Anyway…not to be out done by his daughter, my dad apparently woke up this morning and bought HIMSELF a Mac off their website. Then to really stick it to my sister, he ordered it with faster shipping so it will arrive at the house before hers can get there. How funny is that?

But let’s not lose sight in my dad’s “rub it in your face” move on my sister, or the fact that I’m just jealous of my sister for getting full rides to 4 different division 1 schools to get a PhD when I’m scrapping away for a CPA. There’s an important thing that just happened in the last 48 hours of Crews Family History.

My family just went Mac. (just typing the words send chills down my spine)

Though life for the Crews family has been quite pleasant…it just got even better.

YEAH!!

21 May 2008 No More Shrimp, Please.

I love seafood. Doesn’t matter how cheap and terrible it is. I like it. Since getting married, I haven’t had much seafood because Lyndsay doesn’t really care for it too much. And that’s fine. Since we got married, she hasn’t had much cabbage because I don’t really care for it too much. So we’re even. Right?

Recently Lyndsay learned that she actually liked shrimp. We went to one of her coworkers’ houses for a “Crawfish Boil” and had some great shrimp there…and then we went on the cruise where they had shrimp on tap…and over the last three weeks Lyndsay has had shrimp about 5 times and enjoyed it every time.

So last night we got some shrimp from Kroger and decided to have it for dinner. Lyndsay cooked them up in some sauce with pasta and it was terrific.

About 1 hour later…she started itching really badly and had some bumps break out in various spots around her body…couple on her arms, big ones behind each of her ears, on her legs, etc. We didn’t really know what to think about it…

Until about an hour after that, when she suddenly doubled over in excruciating lower abdomen pain. After about 30 minutes of her rolling around in pain but not letting me do anything about it, she finally gave in and I rushed her to the ER. They pumped her full of medicine, examined her, and came to a conclusion.

Lyndsay is apparently allergic to the iodine found in shrimp. The reaction went away. She left the ER feeling really drowsy and tired (it was about 12:30 when we got out of there), but completely pain free. And she woke up this morning exhausted, but not in any kind of pain. So we’re over it now.

But…no more shrimp, please.
